Levi Colwill reacts to James Trafford’s emotional message amid ‘Chelsea hijack’ news

Burnley star James Trafford took to social media with an emotional message after new links with a move the Chelsea emerged.

The goalkeeper has been a shining star in the Championship this season, recording 29 clean sheets in 45 appearances, but it was not enough for the Clarets to beat Leeds United to the league title.

Nonetheless, Scott Parker‘s side won promotion to the Premier League after just one season in the division, bouncing straight back up after a difficult 2023/24 campaign under Vincent Kompany.

Having won the Golden Glove, though, many clubs have taken an interest in Burnley’s goalkeeper, with Newcastle United long being linked with a move for Trafford, as revealed by Football Insider last year.

However, Chelsea are the latest club to show an interest in Trafford, reportedly attempting to hijack the shot-stopper’s presumed Magpies move this summer.

James Trafford emotional after incredible Burnley season

Taking to Instagram (7 May), Trafford wrote: “Incredible set of lads to make memories for a lifetime with,” finished off with a red heart emoji.

Teammate Connor Roberts liked the post, joined by Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey, Everton’s James Garner, and Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill.

Enzo Maresca can finally fix goalkeeper situation at Chelsea

Football Insider verdict

Every club in the Premier League is aware of Chelsea’s current goalkeeper issue, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Djordje Petrovic, and Mike Penders out on loan, with five others still at Stamford Bridge this season.

While there has been one constant name between the sticks, the manager’s trust in Robert Sanchez has seen Maresca come under immense pressure at Chelsea due to foolish goals being given away.

It seems impossible that the Blues might add yet another name to the goalkeeper ranks this summer, but given Trafford’s most recent campaign, it is no surprise to see them competing for his signature.

Chelsea could still finish the season in a top-five spot in the Premier League table, as well as lift the Europa Conference League title, but supporters remain frustrated by the playing style.

Having come through the Man City academy, there are no concerns over the ‘keeper’s ability with the ball at his feet, so signing him would please Maresca and settle the nerves of the supporters, too.
