Levy shares how much every Tottenham first-team player is worth

Daniel Levy has claimed that it would cost £60million to buy a player who would improve the Tottenham starting XI.

The Spurs chairman explained that it would be a massive risk to make such an outlay as it could go horribly wrong, and would affect a first-team regular.

Levy, who is often criticised for Tottenham’s relatively restrained spending in the transfer market, explained that supporters should not expect massive investment on a single player any time soon.

The chairman gave some fascinating insight into his thinking as he effectively valued each regular starter in Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the £60million bracket.

“For two seasons we have been competing for the title, but it’s unlikely that we can improve our starting XI without spending a huge sum of money and actually I don’t think that either I or Mauricio want to be in that model,” Levy wrote in the Daily Mail.

“It’s a huge responsibility. We’re a big club but it’s run as a proper club, we are self-sufficient. If we make a £60million investment in a player, that means somebody else is going to be affected in our starting XI and, if we make a mistake, it’s very costly.

“If you look at some stats, particularly for the 2016–17 season — the best defensive record, scored more goals than any other team, best goal difference in our history, youngest squad in the Premier League — you realise we can only aim to improve the squad overall.”
