Levy delivers the perfect response to speculation Walker is quitting Tottenham

Daniel Levy has warned senior Tottenham players fidgeting for higher wages that they are all tied down to long-term contracts “they were happy to sign at the time”.

There has been intense speculation in recent weeks that the future of Kyle Walker is in doubt amid strong interest from Manchester City.

The Evening Standard report that the England right-back has learned he could double his £70,000-a-week salary if he joined Pep Guardiola’s side and has held showdown talks with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino about his future.

Premier League big hitters have also been linked with summer swoops for the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Danny Rose, Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

But long-standing Spurs chairman Levy has made it clear that the board will not be held to ransom by players fluttering their eyelashes at rival suitors.

In a recent meeting between the board and members of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, Levy delivered what many fans will consider to be the perfect response to fidgety players.

“DL [Levy] said all players were under contracts, contracts they were happy to sign at the time,” the minutes of the meeting recorded, as quoted by the Standard.

“They would be expected to honour those contracts. They wouldn’t have had a reduction if things had gone badly. DL said no player would be sold who Tottenham didn’t want to sell for non-footballing reasons.”

Nearly the entire Spurs first-team squad have signed at least one new contract since the start of 2016 as Levy and his fellow officials acted to protect the club’s main assets.

It comes at a time when Tottenham are closing in on their highest finish in the Premier League era after already securing their record points total in the competition.

Spurs are set to finish second after losing to West Ham last Friday but have still made considerable strides this season.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club’s supporters have gone berserk after one of the team’s best players dropped a massive hint on social media that he is quitting within weeks.
