Lewis Dunk sends message to Brighton fans after he’s axed

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk has taken to social media to send a message to the fans after their 2-0 Premier League win over Ipswich on Thursday (January 16).

The 33-year-old was omitted from the starting XI but came on for the last 27 minutes as Brighton secured their first Premier League win in their last eight games.

Kaoru Mitoma opened the scoring 59th minute after his shot took a heavy deflection off of Ipswich left-back Leif Davies.

Georginio Rutter later doubled their lead with a cheeky finish after the home side failed to clear their lines from a free-kick.

Brighton’s win sees them climb up to ninth, seven points off the Champions League spots as the race for the top four continues to heat up.

The central defender is yet to feature outside of the Premier League for Brighton this season, starting 14 of his 26 games, and providing zero goal contributions in his 1291 minutes on the field.

Dunk took to Instagram after the win over Ipswich to send a message to the fans, saying: “+3 and a clean sheet, it’s good to be back!”

Brighton will doubtless be hoping their win over Ipswich will be a catalyst as their hopes of European qualification took a major hit over the festive period.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side will travel to Ruben Amorim’s Man United, high off a remarkable 3-1 comeback win over Southampton.
