Liam Delap to make sensational Man City return? ‘It’s a summer deal’

Man City have been backed to make a move to re-sign Liam Delap during the summer transfer window if Ipswich Town are unable to retain their Premier League status.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Delap will “be a Premier League player next year” regardless of what happens this season.

City allowed the 21-year-old to leave the club during the summer transfer window, but since then the young striker has proven he’s capable of performing at the top level.

Pep Guardiola also allowed Julian Alvarez to depart the Etihad Stadium this past summer, but he failed to replace him and has opted to rely on Erling Haaland as his only striker.

Delap has scored six goals and provided one assist in 12 Premier League appearances this season, becoming a talisman for his new club.

The England Under-21 international is under contract with Ipswich until 2029, with the club currently 18th in the Premier League table.

Man City could admit they were wrong about Liam Delap

“He’s only just signed this season and started playing,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“It’s just a deal that’s not going to happen, you’ve seen Cole Palmer go, that’s the thing with Manchester City’s younger players.

“They’re not afraid to let the younger players go out, they realize that they’ve got to play football they also realize about the FFP and PSR situation.

“If Ipswich continues struggling this season, I can’t see him leaving until the summer, I think it’s a summer deal.

“If Ipswich do struggle this season, but he keeps scoring the goals like he’s doing, he’ll be a Premier League player next year, that’s for sure.”
