Liam Scales’ future at Celtic could soon be in doubt if Scott McKenna makes a summer move to the club.

The centre-back’s form at the Hoops has been questionable for weeks as Martin O’Neill’s side struggles for clean sheets.

Scales has been blasted for his performances at the Old Firm side for months, with Celtic in serious danger of not winning the Scottish Premiership title.

Now, with Germanijak.hr reporting that the Hoops have interest in McKenna, it could be the beginning of the end for Scales.

New defenders are no doubt needed at Celtic ahead of the summer transfer window. However, Scales may not be around to play with his new teammates.

McKenna currently plays for Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, where he has continued to impress.

The centre-back is currently on track to win a Croatian Football League title, with his form keeping him in the Scotland National Team.

As a result, if Celtic are able to pull off the transfer in the summer, he would almost certainly become the club’s star centre-back.

Therefore, Scales could be kicked out of the starting XI for the new signing, due to his inconsistent form.

Given that the Celtic player only has two years left on his contract, Celtic may be tempted to sell him in the summer, in order to maximise the potential funds, while also allowing Scales to get regular game time.

Celtic are among the clubs monitoring Scotland defender Scott McKenna, according to reports in Croatia.

And Dinamo are reportedly aware that Celtic, as well as clubs in England, have recently sent scouts to watch 29-year-old McKenna recently.

Therefore, the centre-back’s departure from Celtic Park seems inevitable, with McKenna being a ready-made replacement.

Who else are Celtic linked to ahead of the summer transfer window?

 Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Jon McCracken could be a successful signing for Celtic.

The current Dundee goalkeeper has been heavily linked to the Hoops ahead of the summer transfer window, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The signing would be a further boost to the club’s defence as they look to form the best backline in the country once more.

However, with Rangers also showing interest in many of their targets, and Champions League football not a guarantee for next season as of yet, it remains to be seen if Celtic are able to bring in their number one targets.
