Lincoln City lead Charlton and Wycombe in race to sign Tom Bayliss – sources

Lincoln City are leading Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers in the race to sign Shrewsbury Town star Tom Bayliss, sources have told Football Insider.

Bayliss, 25, will be available on a free transfer when he leaves Shrewsbury at the end of June following the expiration of his contract.

Lincoln are in pole position to land a deal for the former Coventry City and Preston midfielder ahead of their League One rivals Charlton and Wycombe.

Bayliss made 40 appearances in all competitions for Shrewsbury last season, scoring three goals and registering three assists as he helped Paul Hurst’s side beat the drop.

Tom Bayliss move to Lincoln on cards as Shrewsbury exit expected

Bayliss was previously earmarked as a promising talent for the future after coming through Coventry’s academy and forcing his way into their first team in his teenage years.

The former England youth international made the move to Preston in 2019, but he only made 21 appearances during his three-year spell with the Championship club.

After taking in a loan spell at Wigan Athletic in the 2021-22 campaign, the midfielder joined Shrewsbury two years ago after Preston agreed to terminate his contract.

Bayliss has scored 10 goals and laid on nine assists in 81 appearances during his time with the Shropshire club, where he’s played in a number of attacking positions as well as in the centre of the park.

After starting in 31 of his 40 outings last season, Lincoln, Charlton and Wycombe have all registered their interest in landing him on a free transfer when he leaves Shrewsbury later this month.

Lincoln narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season, while Wycombe also secured a top-half finish and Charlton ended the campaign in 16th place.

In other news, EFL club could sell “four stars very quickly” before 30 June.
