Lingard tipped for surprise new Man United role after Carrington reveal - pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Jesse Lingard could be deployed at right wing-back for Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after it was reported Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to convert Jadon Sancho into a right wing-back.
The Athletic reported (November 9) coaches have tried Sancho as a right wing-back in sessions at Carrington in recent weeks.
Solskjaer moved to a wing-back system after their 5-0 humiliation by Liverpool last month.
Sancho has not started for his new club since their 4-0 loss to Leicester City in the last game before the tactical switch.
Asked whether a move to wing-back could spark his Man United career into life, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No, not at all.

“The only person I could maybe see going into that position is Jesse Lingard. It would be a bit of a surprise, but they could maybe give him a chance there.
“Jadon Sancho? No, I don’t see that happening. You’re forcing it there, trying to get him into that position.
“Jadon Sancho should just hold tight. If a new manager comes in he would be straight in the team on the right-wing.
“Then you’ve got Marcus Rashford on the left, Cristiano Ronaldo up front. It’s not rocket science, how to set that team up.
“Sancho will get his chance, he just has to be patient.”
Lingard has only started one game this season – the defeat to West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
The 28-year-old has spent virtually his entire career in attacking midfield roles, or, less frequently, in central midfield. It would count as a major surprise if he was used at wing-back.
