Lingard to West Ham is a ‘foregone conclusion’ after Sky update – Phillips

It’s a “foregone conclusion” Jesse Lingard will re-sign for West Ham in January, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant David Moyes “would love” to have the 28-year-old back at the London Stadium.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that talks between Lingard and Man United over a new contract have collapsed and the departure of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer today will not change that.

Lingard’s representatives convinced his future lies away from Old Trafford and a January transfer is now likely.

He is out of contract at the end of June.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on a return to West Ham, Phillips said: “For me, it’s a foregone conclusion.

“I’d love him to go back there. He settled in so well there and I’m sure Moyes would love to have him back.

“He would not upset the dressing room. Last time he joined mid-season he helped them and I think he’d do the same again.

“I think he’d be a good addition to a team that’s flying at the minute. You can see on social media that he settled in with the lads.

“It’s almost a no-brainer. I don’t see a deal being a big issue.”

Man United

Lingard joined the Hammers on loan for the second half of last season.

He contributed nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Man United are the ‘only team in the Premier League’ who do this after £9m payout confirmed.
