Lisandro Martinez, Trevoh Chalobah react to Enzo Fernandez’s ‘see you’ Chelsea post

Enzo Fernandez has sent a message to Chelsea fans after scoring the only goal in their victory over Tottenham, leading to a response from both teammate and rivals.

Following the international break, Enzo Maresca‘s side returned to action with a clash against Spurs at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (3 April).

Fernandez has been linked with a move from Chelsea to Real Madrid recently, with the summer transfer window now fast approaching.

However, the midfielder continues to play a key part for the Blues for the time being, coming up with a crucial moment early in the second half that would ultimately prove decisive while captaining the side.

Enzo Fernandez scores to seal victory over Tottenham

After a goalless first half, the hosts took the lead five minutes after half time, when Fernandez planted a header into the back of the Tottenham net from a Cole Palmer cross.

Moises Caicedo then saw a second goal for Chelsea ruled out by VAR for offside following a long check from a free kick.

Tottenham then had a goal of their own ruled out for a foul by Pape Sarr on Caicedo, again after a long VAR review.

That meant Fernandez‘s goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Chelsea that keeps them on course to claim a Champions League this season.

After the game, the Argetine took to Instagram to reflect on that win, sending a message to supporters by writing: “Derby win at the Bridge. What a way to see you again Blues, enjoy it.”

A number of his Chelsea teammates responded to that, with Chalobah one of those to pay tribute as he wrote “En8zo” before adding several flame emojis.

Marc Cucurella meanwhile wrote “Show total hermano” along with a blue loveheart, while Man United defender Lisandro Martinez – an international teammate of Fernandez – was one of those to like the post.

Chelsea make ideal return as captain show his importance

Football Insider Verdict

Maresca has come under fire from Chelsea fans in recent weeks, so this was a big result for him to secure against Spurs.

A local derby win is always going to help keep supporters on side, and beyond that it helps significantly in meeting the aim of Champions League qualification.

Once again, Fernandez played a key role in that success by getting the goal, and in his role as captain with Reece James injured or on the bench, he has stepped up to contribute on a number of occasions this season.

As a result, it seems vital that Chelsea do keep the midfielder beyond the end of this season, even amid that speculation around his future.
