American giants ready to pounce for 19-year-old Liverpool ace - report

By Emma Sanders

Real Salt Lake are interested in signing former player and current Liverpool ace Brooks Lennon, according to a report.

The Salt Lake Tribunal claim the American giants could be ready to make a move for the young starlet who was one of the club’s most highly-rated academy stars.

The 19-year-old learned his trade with Salt Lake before joining Liverpool in 2015 following a few temporary stints with the club during the off-season.

Lennon is yet to make a first team appearance for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp but he has become a prominent figure in the Under-23 squad throughout the 2016-17 campaign.

He is a talented attacker although he’s only notched up three goals and one assist in 18 appearances in Premier League 2 following an impressive tally of 31 goals for RSL in the 2014-15 season.

The youngster is already a regular youth international for USA, featuring for their Under-18 squad and training with the Under-20s on occasions.

Lennon has had a bright season for Liverpool’s reserves and excelled under Michael Beale prior to his departure before continuing his impressive form under Mike Garrity.

He recently scored two goals in a friendly against Barnet at the Kirby academy ground and helped his side secure an impressive 4-1 victory.

Lennon regularly lines up alongside some of Liverpool’s most talented youngsters including Ben Woodburn, Sheyi Ojo, Harry Wilson, Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Football Insider verdict:

The youngster has proven to be an exciting forward in Liverpool’s academy but he faces tough competition from a bunch of talented forwards and it’s unlikely he will make the break-through to the first team as a result. Woodburn, Ojo and Wilson appear to have the upper hand so Lennon must make a decision on his future which gives him the best opportunity to receive regular first-team action. Salt Lake showed great interest in his development as a youngster and he could be keen to make a return to America where he has already established himself as a rising star.
