Alberto Moreno is set to be overlooked for Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Porto on Tuesday night despite the unavailability of Andrew Robertson, Football Insider understands.
First choice left-back Robertson is suspended for the Reds’ Champions League quarter-final first leg, which appeared to pave the way for a rare start for his deputy Moreno.
But a club source has told Football Insider that Jurgen Klopp is expected to omit the Spaniard from his starting XI and instead play the versatile James Milner on the left side of defence.
That will be a major snub to Moreno, 26, after a season in which he has made only five appearances for the Merseyside giants because of the sustained excellence of Robertson.
The former Sevilla defender is out of contract at Anfield in June and the source explained that there is no chance of him being offered a new deal.
Moreno has not featured for Liverpool since the the FA Cup defeat to Wolves on 7 January and appears certain to once again have to settle for place on the bench on Tuesday.
In other Liverpool team news, the club are set to sell Klopp’s first signing for a £20million-plus fee after his quit plan is revealed.
