Liverpool agree deal in principle for Ruben Amorim – sources
Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle with Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that talks between the Reds and the manager’s agent are “ongoing” but have reached the advanced stage and he is now set to move to Anfield.
The Reds have been active in seeking Jurgen Klopp’s replacement since he announced in January that he would be leaving the club after nine seasons.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (8 April) that Liverpool are ready to offer Amorim, 39, a “huge” pay rise on his £50,000-a-week wages at Sporting.

Bayer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso had been the Reds’ top choice to replace Klopp, but Football Insider revealed (7 April) that Amorim is now their preferred target.
He has publicly denied there is an agreement in place with Liverpool, or any club, but Football Insider understands from senior sources that a deal is now very close.
Amorim has enjoyed great success with Sporting Lisbon since he joined in 2020.
He won the Portuguese top flight back in the 2020-21 season and currently has the side four points clear of second-place Benfica in the league with a game in hand.
“Liverpool are making headway in the search for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement,” O’Rourke told the Inside Track podcast.
“Amorim is the red-hot favourite to replace the German in the dugout at Anfield.
“Talks are ongoing with Liverpool and his agent and a deal has been agreed in principle.
“It looks like he will make that move to the Premier League in the summer.”
