Liverpool and Tottenham make move to sign Gyokeres – sources
Arsenal will face competition to try and sign Viktor Gyokeres as Liverpool and Tottenham have entered the race to sign him, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Sporting CP striker is Arsenal’s number-one target this summer.
Chelsea are also admirers of the 26-year-old who lit up in Portugal last season, but his £86million release clause is expected to be too high for all the Premier League clubs.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham have registered their interest in a deal for the goal machine.
Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 49 games across all competitions last season and contributed 15 assists in an impressive campaign.
It has gained him plenty of admirers this summer, but he’s unlikely to move unless his club lowers their price tag.
Given that Sporting only paid £16.9million for him from Coventry, even a slightly lower fee would provide the Portuguese club a significant profit.
Arsenal could raise funds by selling fringe players
While £86million is a fee Arsenal are unwilling to pay, Mikel Arteta could raise some funds by selling various fringe players.

A striker is a key area that Arteta wants to strengthen this summer as he aims to push the club one step further in the Premier League next season.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both led the line at times for Arsenal last season, but they never consistently provided the goal threat required.
