Liverpool star Darwin Nunez reacts to Borja Sainz’s Norwich City exit message

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has reacted to the news that Borja Sainz has left Norwich City in favour of Portuguese giants Porto.

The Uruguay international scored as Liverpool defeated Preston North End 3-1 in their first pre-season friendly on Sunday, 13 July.

Arne Slot’s men are vying to retain their Premier League title and face Bournemouth in their opening top-flight game on 15 August.

Meanwhile, Norwich will hope to secure a Championship playoff spot in Liam Manning’s first season in charge at Carrow Road, but will have to cope without Sainz’s services.

Liverpool ace Nunez reacts as Porto announce Sainz signing

Amid Slot’s efforts to reshape his squad at Anfield, Nunez has been linked with a Liverpool departure ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, fellow forward Sainz has been on the move this summer after leaving Norwich to join Francesco Farioli’s Porto.

In a joint post with the Spaniard on Instagram on 13 July, the Portuguese outfit announced: “Welcome to your new home, Borja Sainz.”

Porto’s message attracted a like from Nunez, whose own future remains uncertain despite his goal against Preston on Sunday.

Sainz exit hands Liam Manning early blow in Norwich promotion challenge

Liam Manning proved his class as a Championship manager last season by steering his former club Bristol City to the playoffs for the first time since the West Country outfit won promotion from League One in 2015.

Sainz is a big loss for Manning

The recently appointed Norwich City boss is now tasked with achieving a top-six spot with the Canaries, but Sainz’s exit has made his job significantly more difficult.

Sainz proved himself as one of the best forwards in the Championship by notching 18 goals and four assists in 41 second-tier appearances last season.

His quality particularly shone through when he scored hat-tricks against both Derby County and Plymouth Argyle in September and November, respectively.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Sainz before he joined Porto.

The fact that the 24-year-old attracted Premier League interest shows that he is a major loss for Manning amid his side’s upcoming playoff push.
