Liverpool: Arne Slot future to be reviewed as end-of-season sack timeline emerges

Liverpool will review the future of Arne Slot at the end of the season as pressure on his position continues to ramp up after recent results.

Slot’s side lost 1-0 to Galatasaray in midweek, placing them on the back foot in the Champions League round of 16 during what has been a disappointing season.

More recently, Chelsea lost 1-0 to Newcastle on 14 March, opening the door for Liverpool to leapfrog them into a Champions League qualification place.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the club hierarchy are set to review the situation after all results are confirmed.

Slot has been challenged to qualify for Europe’s premier competition via the league, and remains in a strong place to do that as Liverpool assess their manager’s position.

Liverpool make Arne Slot sack plan

Football Insider revealed on 13 March that Liverpool have no immediate plans to sack Slot as things stand, despite questions being asked.

The defeat to Galatasaray has raised concerns about the team’s performances, but even if they are eliminated in the second leg, a decision will not be made.

Instead, they plan to review his position at the end of the season when they will weigh up pros and cons with all options still on the table.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “The pressure has been on Slot for a while now, results, performances have not been good enough.

“He really needs a strong end to the season to really boost his chances of keeping that job on a long-term basis.

“It’s a difficult time for Slot, but I don’t think any result next week against Galatasaray will have an immediate impact on his future.

“At end of the season, I’m sure there will be a review and maybe then a decision might be made on his future.

“It’ll definitely ramp up the pressure on him, whether it’ll have a direct influence on a decision to be made on his future before the end of the season, I don’t think so.

“He’s got a bit of credit in the bank and obviously the goal is now to try and end the season with some silverware. Then it’s all about finishing in that top five for the Champions League.”

Igor Tudor at risk ahead of Liverpool vs Tottenham

Slot’s next attempt to ease pressure on his position comes as Liverpool face Tottenham at Anfield on 15 March in a huge game for both sides.

A win would see Liverpool leapfrog Chelsea into fifth place, and a defeat for Spurs will mean they are outside of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

As a result, Football Insider revealed that Tottenham could accelerate plans to sack Igor Tudor in a last-ditch attempt to save their season.

Spurs are at extreme risk of relegation, with a fifth straight loss for the interim boss likely to force a decision, and replacements are already being eyed.

Both West Ham and Nottingham Forest have shown more signs of improvement than Spurs, and there is a feeling another change in manager may be necesasry.
