Liverpool manager Arne Slot could potentially see his reign ended at the hands of Everton in the upcoming Merseyside derby.

The Dutchman is under huge pressure at Anfield after another defeat to PSG in the Champions League in midweek, and speculation is growing as to whether he will even last until the end of the season.

The Reds have surprised everyone with the disappointing nature of their Premier League title defence this term, and they currently find themselves part of a battle just to qualify for the Champions League.

Everton will fancy themselves as outsiders in that tussle, as they are currently just three points behind their city rivals in the final qualification spot.

Slot’s future at Liverpool is looking bleak, and the first derby clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 19 April could have a seismic impact on the final stages of both teams’ campaigns.

Liverpool’s board have tried to show as much patience with Slot as possible after his exploits last season, but things are now starting to come to a head with the supporters.

The Reds were dismantled 4-0 by Manchester City in their FA Cup quarter-final last weekend, and away fans were heard chanting Xabi Alonso’s name as they left the Etihad Stadium.

A growing section of the Anfield support appear to have totally lost faith in Slot’s ability to get the team back on track, and that is a hugely dangerous situation for the club hierarchy.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that FSG have accepted that they may have to sack Slot if the atmosphere surrounding the club becomes “toxic,” and it is already clear that things are on their way towards that.

The Merseyside derby is now just three games away, after clashes with Fulham and PSG, and defeat in that game would likely take the fans’ frustrations towards the team and manager to new levels.

Everton love to revel in their rivals’ misfortune at every possible opportunity, and David Moyes is sure to have his players fired up more than ever before when that clash comes around.

Defeat to the Toffees may see that toxic nightmare play out, and Slot’s dismissal triggered as a result.

He has faced growing pressure from the stands in recent weeks, but if Everton strike the final blow in his Liverpool tenure, that would surely provide the ultimate embarrassment.

Liverpool players have downed tools for Slot

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Liverpool’s players are at the stage where they have a lack of desire to fight for Slot.

The Scottish businessman believes that the squad have “given up” on the boss, and have lost all faith in him being able to steady the ship at Anfield.

Their FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City was met with angry reactions from some players after the full-time whistle, with a disconnect growing between them and the fans.

Wyness feels that the group have effectively downed tools under the current manager, and that very rarely ends well for the man at the helm.

FSG may have every intention of trying to afford Slot as much time as possible, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to continue to do so.
