Liverpool attacker Lazar Markovic is “up for grabs”, according to a reliable journalist.

James Pearce, report for the Liverpool Echo, claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday night that Markovic, 23, is available for sale with the transfer deadline looming.

The cut-off for transfers to English clubs is at 11pm on Thursday, but teams in Spain and Germany will have extra time to complete their deals.

The Mirror reported in July that Italian top-flight side Fiorentina were interested in swooping for the Serbian international, but they walked away from any kind of potential deal after learning Liverpool were demanding a staggering £16million for the forgotten man.

Markovic has only made 34 appearances across all competitions since he signed from Benfica in 2014 and spent the second half of last term on loan at Hull, who suffered relegation from the Premier League while he was a part of their squad.

Football Insider Verdict

Markovic still has a promising career ahead of him – it just isn’t at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp needs to cash in on the attacker or ship him out on loan at the last minute to not only save a bit of money but to give him the chance to revive his stalling career. He showed at Hull last term that he is capable of playing well in the Premier League, but it may be that a move abroad is in order. The transfer window doesn’t close until Friday in Germany or Spain, so a move to either of those would be a logical choice for the Reds and for Markovic to make.

In other Liverpool news, another striker has agreed terms to leave Anfield on deadline day, following in the foot-steps of Divock Origi.
