Liverpool attacker transfer moves a step closer as new talks planned - sources

By Italy correspondent Gianluigi Carrozzini

Joao Teixeira will meet with Fiorentina for a new round of talks to discuss a summer move, Football Insider sources understand.

The Liverpool attacking midfielder has been by targeted the Serie A club on the recommendation of their manager Paulo Sousa.

Teixeira has failed to agree a contract extension with Liverpool to replace his current deal, which expires at the end of the season.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club do not expect him to be at Anfield next season, and Fiorentina have made their move for the Portugese.

The 23-year-old is keen to play regular first-team football and has been made an offer by Fiorentina, who are fourth in Serie A and have hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

An agreement is not yet in place but all parties are hopeful that a deal can be concluded for Teixeira to move to Italy on a free transfer.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed in January that talks with the winger were “ongoing” and he was hopeful Teixeira would stay at Anfield but that now seems unlikely.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Merseysiders have already clinched a summer deal for Schalke defender Joel Matip.
