Liverpool are set to axe Emre Can from their team for their Premier League fixture against Hull on Saturday, according to a report.

The Guardian claim the the central midfielder is the player most likely to make way to create room for the return of Sadio Mane.

In the newspaper’s expected Liverpool starting XI for the trip to Humberside against the relegation strugglers, 10 of those who were in the side that drew 1-1 against Chelsea in midweek are down to play.

The only one missing is Can, 23, who was used in a central attacking midfield role alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and just ahead of Jordan Henderson on Tuesday night.

The Germany international has come in for heavy criticism from supporters during the past month in which Liverpool have been dumped out of two cup competitions and lost ground in the title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side showed signs of a long-awaited return to form on Wednesday as they came from a goal down to secure a point at Anfield against league leaders Chelsea.

The manager is expected to name Mane in the starting XI on Saturday after his recovery from his exertions at the African Cup of Nations.

The Senegalese was a second-half substitute against Chelsea but is a first pick by Klopp when he is fit and available.

In other Liverpool news, one of the club’s attacking midfielders is on the wanted list of one of England’s biggest clubs.
