Liverpool backed to complete defender signing – fans react to Carragher’s claim
Liverpool fans believe that they will purchase a new defender in the January transfer window after Jamie Carragher’s recent social media post.
It took just six minutes for Arne Slot’s men to concede on Tuesday (14 January) against Nottingham Forest, with the two Premier League title rivals eventually drawing 1-1 after Diogo Jota’s equaliser.
However, Carragher was unimpressed by what he saw as the Reds failed to beat Forest for the second time this season.
He wrote on X, “Liverpool should’ve won tonight, but they continue to create big chances even in the games they don’t win, but the defensive solidity they had at the start of the season has gone. Always look likely to concede. Buy a defender!!!!”
Liverpool have conceded 20 goals in as many Premier League fixtures this season, which is situation Carragher wants to see get addressed.
The Premier League giants are currently focusing on trying to retain two of their key defenders in Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as both men are out of contract this season.
Liverpool fans want a new defensive signing
Slot has wanted to sign a defensive midfielder from the moment he joined the club, as he attempted to bring in Martin Zubimendi during the summer transfer window.
The Reds ultimately missed out on the Spain international and he is now expected to sign for Arsenal next summer instead.
Liverpool fans have pushed the hierarchy to sign a new defender, with some believing that a “new left-back” should be a priority.
