Liverpool backed to dominate in 2023 after 'massive' development - pundit

Liverpool have proved they can secure Champions League qualification this season after beating Tottenham away from home.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ “season-defining” win.

Liverpool won their first away league game of the season as they defeated Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday (6 November).

Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled during the opening period of the season with several key players sidelined.

McManus claims the win over Spurs is the perfect platform to kick on from when the second half of the season begins.

“Results like that can be season-defining,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Tottenham is not an easy place to go and Liverpool hadn’t won away from home all season. Now that is out of their system, that sort of, mental block, they should be able to go on and dominate away from home like they used to.

“The problem is, they are picking up a bit of momentum right before the season stops. It couldn’t come at a worse time for them.

“They will need to remember that result, the feeling of winning that game. Of course, Liverpool will be stronger after the break anyway, they have a lot of injuries.

“Being full-strength and knowing they can get a result at a team like Tottenham is massive for them as they try and finish as high up the table as they can, even in those top four places.”

Liverpool’s final game before the World Cup is against Southampton on Saturday (12 November).

The Reds could go into the World Cup break as high as sixth if they win.
