Liverpool backed to sign Mohamed Salah replacement as they pave way for ‘record-breaking January window’

Liverpool could be set to replace Mohamed Salah in the January transfer window as they aim to turn their season around.

Arne Slot’s side have struggled in the early stages of the new season, as they aim to defend their Premier League title.

Liverpool lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the last game before the international break, and are now eight points adrift of table-topping Arsenal.

Salah has been criticised this term after a major drop in performance levels, and his Anfield exit is now being rumoured.

Liverpool focusing on Mohamed Salah replacement and one other ‘important’ signing

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Liverpool could look to replace Salah in the January window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the Reds are also desperate to get in some defensive reinforcements.

Liverpool have been linked with Marc Guehi, who they missed out on in the summer, to help address their issues at the back.

Wyness added that it will be a record-breaking January transfer window, with a lot of activity from a lot of different clubs.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Liverpool will want to bring in some new central defensive talent in January. And I think that’s going to be important for them. So that’s the focus for Liverpool right now, who is going to be those defensive replacements in January?

“And will they look to replace Salah? That’s the other question as well. Those are the two big things for Liverpool as we come up to January.

“There will be big activity this January. I predict more than normal for a mid-season window. The usual cliché in football is that it’s a bad window to buy people in.

“I think we’re going to see a lot of clubs actually in the market in January, off the back of such a big summer, a record-breaking summer. I predict a record-breaking January as well. A lot of activity coming up, and I’m hearing that a lot of things are already on the move.”

Liverpool could sell midfielder in January

Meanwhile, Liverpool could sell Harvey Elliott for the right price, with a recall from Aston Villa looking increasingly likely.

The 22-year-old was brought in to help address the Villains’ attacking issues, yet he has started just once in the Premier League.

As a result, sources told Football Insider that Liverpool are contemplating a recall for Elliott from his loan at Aston Villa.

If the Englishman returns to Anfield in January, he could be set for a permanent exit.
