Liverpool backed to win race to Sofyan Amrabat after journalist’s £40m update – pundit

Paul Robinson has backed Liverpool to win the race to Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 26-year-old is “a top-quality player” who would enhance Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds are expected to enter the market for midfield reinforcements this winter.

Liverpool

According to journalist Dean Jones, writing in Give Me Sport (23 December), Liverpool are interested in signing Morocco star Amrabat.

Fiorentina are said to want up to £40million for the centre-midfielder.

When asked by Football Insider if Amrabat would be a welcome addition at Anfield, Robinson said: “Liverpool need a midfielder.

“Amrabat is a top-quality player and he would also be another body in the building.

“I have watched him play at Fiorentina this year and I was impressed. The World Cup has really cemented my opinion of him.

“I think he would do very well at a club like Liverpool. I think the Premier League would really suit his style of play.

Man United

“It is important that Liverpool sign at least one midfielder in January. I know it is notoriously a difficult month to do business but they simply have to. They cannot risk going into the second half of the season with their current midfielder options.

“Amrabat would be a big help. They should try their best to win the race for him.”
