Expert: Jurgen Klopp told 'you have no excuses' after new Liverpool complaint

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has “no excuses” and should have made provisions if he felt the scheduling of the Community Shield would negatively impact his players.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Late goals from Mohamed Salah and new marquee signing Darwin Nunez sealed a 3-1 win for Liverpool against Man City in the Community Shield last Saturday (30 July).

As quoted by the Daily Mail the previous Thursday (28 July), Klopp complained that the FA should find “another date” for the traditional season curtain raiser.

The German reasoned that his side had a longer 2021-22 campaign than other teams and have had to organise a shorter pre-season because of the Community Shield.

But the “big question” is where the FA would move the clash to given the already-crammed schedule, claims Dinnery.

“It wouldn’t be Jurgen Klopp if he didn’t have a little go at the fixture schedule,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“The big question mark is when would be a good time? We are already working with a heavily congested first half of the season due to the World Cup in Qatar.

“That brings four additional domestic fixtures and a couple of extra Champions League fixtures. There are also no guarantees in the current Covid climate that all the fixtures will go ahead.

“Ultimately, you need to try and put these fixtures in when they can. Wherever you put the Community Shield, you’re going to upset someone.

“I’m sure you would have even more complaints if it was shoehorned in between a domestic and Champions League game.

“These are well-voiced concerns, but everyone is already aware of the scheduling. You haven’t really got any excuses for it. You have to cut your cloth accordingly.

“If you feel your players haven’t had enough rest, speak to the club and maybe don’t go on one of these pre-season tours. Or, field your development squad.”
