Liverpool news: Expert tells Jurgen Klopp to stop whinging after 'ridiculous' Uefa jibe

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needs to stop complaining about the demands placed on his player by the fixture schedule.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Most of Liverpool’s European stars will play four Nations League matches next week, just days after the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday (28 May).

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo last Thursday (19 May), Klopp expressed his frustration at Uefa’s “ridiculous” scheduling.

The German manager also hit out at the Premier League after his side were made to play Southampton last Tuesday (17 May), just three days after the FA Cup final.

But Dinnery insists that the gruelling end-of-season schedule is exactly why Klopp has built such an extensive squad.

“This is nothing new,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“How many years has he been banging the same drum? We understand that the broadcasters hold all of the power because they pay the money.

“Managers know this is going to happen so they need to cut their cloth accordingly.

“Optimally, players want 72 hours to recover between games, but they made nine changes for that trip to St. Mary’s.

“That is why they have that strength and depth in the squad. When instances like this arise, ultimately you have an almost seamless transition in terms of performance.”

Liverpool could be without Thiago Alcantara against Real Madrid after the midfielder picked up an Achilles injury on the final day of the league season.

Divock Origi is also unavailable, but they are otherwise expected to have a clean bill of health.
