Finance guru: Liverpool chiefs FSG could strike ‘very attractive’ takeover deal after £197m news
Liverpool owners FSG may revive their interest in a takeover of a Brazilian club so as to take advantage of a lucrative breakaway plot.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about seismic business news from South America.
Per finance outlet Globo on Wednesday (2 February), an unnamed investor has offered Brazilian clubs £590m to form a new breakaway league.

Payment would be split between Serie A and Serie B clubs across three instalments of £196.6m in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Brazilian TV network Superesportes reported in December last year that FSG were unsuccessful in an attempt to buy Belo Horizonte club Cruzeiro.
Plumley told Football Insider site later that month that he does not expect the Boston-based investors to give up in their hunt for a Brazilian club.
And the spreadsheet expert explained that the latest developments could be the catalyst for FSG to re-enter the market for a takeover.
“I think it makes a takeover deal more attractive,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“The Super League idea in Europe fell flat among fans, but this is a similar principle.
“The Brazilian clubs are trying to form that breakaway deal and it’s about generating more money for the clubs, which means they’ll be valued higher.
“It’s a well-known league. It’s not as big as the European leagues but there are big, well-known clubs in there that have a lot of investment potential.
“It would suit multi-club-style ownership like we’ve seen with these Liverpool reports about a new takeover.
“Any breakaway league is likely to be very attractive to investors, especially those who are more aligned to the American style model of sport.
“That fits with FSG’s ownership of Liverpool and the breakaway aspect will sweeten the deal in terms of that prospect.”

FSG are no strangers to spinning plates in the world of sport.
They own MLB outfit the Boston Reds as well as NHL side the Pittsburgh Penguin outside of football.
