Liverpool close in on eight-figure deal for 19-goal forward – report

By Harvey Byrne

Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Roma over the transfer of attacker Mohamed Salah, according to a report.

The Daily Mail has claimed on their live transfer blog (Saturday 4.41pm) that the Reds are closing in on an £35million deal with the Serie A giants for the 25-year-old wide forward.

It is detailed that the two sides have been in discussions about the structure of the transfer and that Roma initially demanded a figure of £39million.

However, the Merseysiders are said to have hopes of being able to reach a compromise with Roma with “around £5million” to be added through add-ons.

It is also stated that Roma themselves need to sell players by June 30 to stay within Finacial Fair Play parameters, meaning that Salah could become a Liverpool player sooner, rather than later.

The 53-time capped Egypt international was a key part of the Roma team which finished runners-up to Juvetus in Serie A last season, as he returned 19 goals and 15 assists in 41 matches in all competitions

Salah also still has two years remaining on his contract, but his value could drop in the future as he approaches the end of it.

Football Insider verdict:

Liverpool started the last campaign scoring for fun. However, it soon became apparent that without Sadio Mane in the team there were problems. Now, Salah, who played on both the right and in the centre for Roma last season could be the perfect addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side, especially if the German wants to drop Philippe Coutinho out of the front three. Salah may have struggled to settle in the Premier League with Chelsea, but he is certainly deservig of another chance, as players such as Kevin de Bruyne and Nemanja Matic have previously been shelved by the Blues also only to return as stars.
