Liverpool could land ‘huge boost’ as investors pursue US deal – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Liverpool could land a “huge boost” if minority owner Arctos Partners adds a stake in NFL franchise Buffalo Bills to their portfolio.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Fenway Sports Group will be keen to “cross-germinate” their investments and share information between sports in an attempt to establish “best practice”.

Front Office Sports revealed last month (30 October) that Arctos are in talks to add a minority stake in the Bills to their portfolio.

The Dallas-based firm has investments in Paris Saint-Germain and Atalanta and is also a shareholder in Fenway Sports Group.

FSG have majority stakes in baseball side Boston Red Sox and ice hockey’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Liverpool and NFL side Buffalo Bills could build new partnership, says Wyness

Wyness has insisted the new investment in American football will have no adverse effects at Anfield.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It won’t affect the stake in Liverpool.

“A bit like Fenway Sports Group itself, they’re hedging their bets in a sports portfolio.

“The NFL have recently opened up to minority investments and Arctos are taking advantage of that.

“It does make sense to try and cross-germinate the investments. Some groups have been more successful than others in that sense, but I think it’s a sensible strategy.

“I don’t think it will affect Liverpool.

“Fenway will be looking at this and hosting some visits, putting the coaches together.

“I think that will start to happen more and more.

“Good professional coaches, strategists and data guys can all learn from each other.

“If you invest in several sports you try and put best practice in place and make the whole group better.

“Sharing of this information is very important, as are the personal relationships between the clubs.

“It could give the whole group a huge boost.”
