Liverpool could now accept Naby Keita offer amid ‘big’ claim – pundit
Naby Keita has not delivered during his time at Anfield despite “big” expectations – and Liverpool will likely entertain offers for him this summer.
That is the view of ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Allan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Keita’s rocky time on Merseyside.
Liverpool confirmed (30 June) that the 27-year-old had been nominated for African men’s player of the year.
The midfielder joins Mohamed Salah and former Reds forward Sadio Mane on the 30-person list.
Keita currently has one year left on his contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side after joining from RB Leipzig in 2018.
When asked if he thought he will remain with the Merseyside club, Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s another interesting situation for Liverpool.
“There was a lot of hype about him when he first came, taking over the number eight Steven Gerrard shirt and everything that went along with that.
“We were expecting big things and I think it’s been up and down I think that’s fair to say. We’ve seen moments where he’s looked like the player we all thought he could be but at times he’s kind of gone missing as well. It’ll be interesting to see how Liverpool move forward with this one.

“I think if a decent fee came in for him I think they would listen to it, I think they would have to. I don’t really think he’s set the heather alight the way everyone would want him to.
“But, that being said, we know there’s a good player in there. Only Jurgen Klopp will know exactly what he wants from him. So we’ll have to see but if a decent enough fee comes in they’ll obviously listen to it.“
