‘Liverpool could seal Marc Guehi handshake with lowball offer’

Liverpool could seal the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi with an ambitious offer.

With the future of Ibrahima Konate uncertain and fellow defender Jarrell Quansah departing for Bayern Leverkusen, Arne Slot is looking at adding another centre-back to his ranks.

Slot has already spent over £100m this summer with the additions of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong and a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez has been agreed.

The Reds are set to continue to be busy in the market with a centre-back now one of their top priorities and Guehi ranking highly on their list of targets.

£40m could be enough to land Guehi signing

According to the Daily Mail, Guehi could be available for under £50m this summer.

Guehi only has one year left on his current contract at Selhurst Park and, after winning the FA Cup with the club in May, is likely to leave South London.

Lewis Steele states that Liverpool could try and ‘lowball’ Palace into a deal at £30m, but a fee around £40m would be more realistic.

With Quansah leaving, and Andy Robinson also rumoured to be departing, Guehi would also be good for the Reds’ homegrown quota.

Steele says: “If the interest turns serious, then this one could definitely happen.”

Konate future could decide Guehi arrival

Guehi has proven himself to be among on the best Premier League defenders over his four seasons at Palace.

The 24-year-old has also cemented his place in the England squad and deserves the opportunity to play Champions League football.

Guehi is confident on the ball and has the ability to play in either a back three or a back four.

Guehi’s Palace record

Playing against elite opposition can only be a positive for Guehi and England ahead of the World Cup next summer.

Almost certain to leave Palace this summer, the Reds have identified Guehi as a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk.

A move could depend though on Konate and whether Slot can strike a deal with the Frenchman over his contract situation.

Guehi would not want to join Liverpool to be sat on the bench amid interest elsewhere where he could be first choice.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle are all believed to be monitoring Guehi’s situation so Slot may need to act quickly to secure his services.
