‘Liverpool could sell Luis Diaz this summer’ in surprise twist
Luis Diaz has been a key figure under Arne Slot this season, featuring both as a winger and as the new first-choice central striker ahead of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Liverpool are enduring a mini-wobble after a shock FA Cup exit to Plymouth and conceding a stoppage-time equaliser to Everton. Diaz started both matches but failed to score in either match.
Still, the Columbian has proven key for Arne Slot’s side, featuring in 33 matches and scoring 12 goals in that period. His team lead the Premier League table by seven points, reached the Champions League last-16 and await the League Cup final against Newcastle United next month.
But their astonishing campaign has been slightly overshadowed by ongoing contract uncertainty surrounding a group of superstar players.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Mohamed Salah could be set for a transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal as both players’ contracts expire this summer.
However, according to Paul Robinson, Diaz has also emerged as a potential departure in a surprising move.
Luis Diaz could be sold despite Arne Slot having faith him
Diaz was set to sign a new deal with Liverpool earlier this season following a brilliant start to the campaign, but other contract negotiations have taken priority.
The Colombian has made 18 starts in the Premier League this season with 33 appearances under Slot, proving to be a trusted option for the Dutch coach.
Despite this, Paul Robinson revealed on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that Diaz is a player who “could see moving on” rather than other attackers linked with exits.
He told Football Insider: “They can’t let them all go, surely. You look at that, you ask me about those three players and Mo Salah, maybe Diaz. Jota, for me, is the best finisher out of the lot. I think he’s a top-class player.

“I think you put him in a situation as a number nine, he’s a great finisher. But then you put Cody Gakpo into that situation.
“But we said that this time last year, didn’t we, when Jurgen Klopp went? You look at what was at the disposal of the new manager. Diaz, potentially, you could see moving on. Mo Salah, as you know, I cover the Saudi Pro League quite often.
“With Neymar moving on now and going back to Brazil, there is a gap at Al-Hilal, a huge gap, and there’s a huge gap in the Saudi Pro League.”
Arne Slot favours Luis Diaz over Darwin Nunez as the Liverpool striker
Diaz has often been deployed as a striker by Slot, who has preferred him over Darwin Nunez in key matches. Nunez was also linked with a move to Al-Nassr in January, but the deal failed to materialise as they signed Jhon Duran instead.

The Colombian wingher’s form has dipped recently, with his last Premier League goal coming in December against West Ham in a 5-0 win.
While his overall tally of 12 goals this season is solid, his scoring tends to come in bursts rather than consistently—something that could tempt Liverpool to upgrade in that position.
