Liverpool are “desperate” to beat the elite Premier League clubs in the race to sign Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon, according to a report.
The Mirror claim the Merseysiders are battling with Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal to land the the wonderkid, who can play at left-back or in a more advanced left-sided role.
Sessegnon, 16, is regarded as one of the outstanding talents in English football after making a huge impact since being fast-tracked into the Fulham first team.
It is reported that the Championship club are keen to tie Sessegnon down to a professional contract as soon as he turns 17 but are braced for January bids for the youngster.
Football Insider revealed in February that Arsenal had made an offer for the Fulham ace and then in August that Tottenham were willing to offer three players in a swap deal for the youngster dubbed the “new Gareth Bale”.
Sessegnon is an attacking left-back who is a prolific goal creator and scorer. The England Under-19 international, who does not turn 17 until May of next year, has scored two goals and supplied one assist from left-back in nine matches for Fulham this season.
The teenager also hit the headlines in August when, at the age of 16 years and 94 day, he also became the Championship’s youngest scorer just four days after he made his league debut in a 1-1 draw at Leeds.
Sessegnon is the latest star graduate of the highly rated Fulham academy, which has produced a number of outstanding young talents in recent years, including Celtic striker Mousa Dembele and Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts.
