Liverpool ‘doing due diligence’ on sensation with £84m release clause

Liverpool are doing their “due diligence” on signing Palmeiras’ sensation Vitor Reis, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that a number of elite clubs are considering a move for the highly-rated centre-back ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

Reis’ contract with the Brazilian outfit is set to run until December 2028, with a release clause set at £84million, and any deal is expected to come at a high price.

Real Madrid and Arsenal are said to have joined Liverpool in the race for the 18-year-old’s signature, with clubs closely monitoring his progress in Brazil.

Sources say the youngster is keen on a move to Europe to play in the Champions League, but his club are determined to keep him for the immediate future.

Arne Slot, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes’ new-look transfer strategy at Anfield has seen them identify a number of promising stars across the world.

However, the club are keen to mix young, exciting talents with ready-made stars, and Reis is not currently among their top targets despite the extensive interest.

Liverpool plotting deal to sign Palmeiras sensation Vitor Reis

Reis has only made 15 senior appearances in his career after signing his first professional deal in 2022 and making his first-team debut as a substitute in June.

The Brazilian outfit have already placed a lot of faith in the 18-year-old, who has been touted by many as a future captain of the national team having captained both his club and country at under-17 level.

Palmeiras are famed for their production of some of Brazil’s brightest young stars including Real Madrid sensation Endrick, West Ham’s Luis Guilherme and Chelsea’s Estevao Willian.

Madrid are among the clubs most intensely linked with Reis, having become experts at scouting and stockpiling South America’s pools of talent.

Now, Liverpool are keen to get in on the action and are closely tracking the 18-year-old with a potential deal in mind for next summer’s transfer window.

Liverpool are among the elite European clubs scouring the world for the hottest young talents, with Reis’ emergence setting interested sides on alert.

Given the current questions surrounding the future of Virgil van Dijk, Reis is viewed as a long-term option for the position, and the Reds are keeping close tabs on his development.

In other news, Liverpool are “desperate” to agree a deal for Van Dijk.
