Liverpool Exclusive: ‘Huge’ update today on superstars agreeing new deals

Liverpool have the profit and sustainability (PSR) capacity to offer Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold “huge” new deals to remain with the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants are currently at risk of losing the superstar trio on free transfers as they are all out of contract at Anfield in June 2025.

Saudi Pro League sides have shown an interest in potential swoops for Salah, 32, and Van Dijk, 33, in recent windows, while Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been linked with Real Madrid.

Salah spoke out about his “disappointment” at not being offered a new deal after scoring a brace in the 3-2 win over Southampton on 24 November.

The three players will all be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with overseas sides from January, leaving some uncertainty for Arne Slot heading into the second half of the campaign.

But sources have told Football Insider the Merseysiders are in a comfortable position from a PSR perspective and can offer Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold increased terms if they want to.

Liverpool can offer huge deals after limited transfer spending

Under the PSR rules, top-flight clubs are only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

Liverpool posted a pre-tax loss of £9million in their latest accounts for 2022-23, while their overall revenue remained static at £594million for that same year.

The Merseysiders had a quiet summer transfer window in terms of incomings after only signing winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the goalkeeper joining the club at the start of next season.

Sources say Liverpool’s lack of spending means they will have more flexibility to either agree new contracts with their key players or make new signings in January as Slot’s side currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Salah and Van Dijk appear to be “very keen” to sign new deals at Anfield after they have both continued to play key roles under the Dutch manager.

Salah has now scored 13 goals and laid on eight assists in 14 Premier League matches, while Van Dijk has played every minute in the top flight since Slot was brought in to replace Jurgen Klopp over the summer.

Alexander-Arnold has, however, only played 90 minutes in the Premier League on six occasions so far this season as question marks remain over his future.
