Liverpool expected 4-3-3 v Everton: Midfielder axed
By Emma Sanders
Liverpool are expected to make just one change to the side which defeated Middlesbrough 3-0 for the Merseyside derby on Monday evening.
Emre Can is in line to come in for Giorginio Wijnaldum after Klopp stated the midfielder was in a “pretty good way” despite missing the victory against Boro on Wednesday.
He is likely to start should he be passed fully fit but Liverpool are expected to be without Joel Matip after Jurgen Klopp stated his injury was still “painful” on Friday morning and he has yet to return to training.
Daniel Sturridge could return to the squad for the first time in a month but it’s unlikely he will start with Klopp admitting “20 minutes would be great.”
Divock Origi is expected to retain his place in attack after scoring five goals in his last five games and he will be joined by regular forward duo Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Adam Lallana has been in sensational form and he is expected to take up his usual attacking role in midfield while Can is likely to be partnered with Jordan Henderson in the holding role.
In Matip’s absence, Ragnar Klavan is expected to retain his place at centre-back after producing fairly good performances against Middlesbrough and West Ham.
He is likely to be joined by regular starter Dejan Lovren and England stars James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne are also expected to keep their places at full-back.
Klopp also confirmed Simon Mignolet will start in goal once again after dropping Loris Karius for the 3-0 win against Middlesbrough.
