Liverpool ‘expected to complete two January signings’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he “expects” Liverpool to make “one or two” signings in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Reds will look to finalise contract negotiations with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk before the new year and settle on a budget for the winter window.

The Liverpool trio are all out of contract at the end of this season and no official news has emerged from the club about their futures.

Arne Slot’s side made just one permanent signing in the summer transfer window after the Dutchman’s arrival, bringing Federico Chiesa in from Juventus.

Despite their lack of activity, Liverpool sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table having dropped just three points in 13 top-flight games.

The Reds are also top of the pile in the Champions League league phase.

Liverpool ‘expected’ to make ‘one or two’ January signings, says Wyness

Wyness suggested the title chasers will offer fans “certainty” on the out-of-contract trio ahead of the January window.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’ll be trying to bring these three contract negotiations to some sort of conclusion in the weeks running up to the window.

“Then you’ve got a clearer idea of where you’re going in January.

“Notoriously, January is a difficult window to get the right quality for the right price.

“There’s a lot to balance up, but I still expect Liverpool to get one or two players in.

“We should also get some certainty on the Salah, Van Dijk and Trent negotiations before Christmas.”
