Liverpool expected to sign top Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement – expert

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Liverpool will be able to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold if he fails to agree a new contract with the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs and their owners – suggested the Merseyside giants won’t be held to ransom in any contract negotiations with the England international.

Alexander-Arnold could be heading into his final few months with Liverpool as his contract is set to expire in June 2025.

The 26-year-old has been a first-team regular since making his debut in 2016, having made 319 senior appearances for the Merseysiders over the past eight years.

Alexander-Arnold has been a long-term target for Real Madrid, but Football Insider revealed on 26 September his first choice is to sign a new contract with Liverpool.

Wyness insisted Arne Slot’s side shouldn’t be worried about replacing the right-back if he does decide to leave at the end of this season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “While Trent is young enough, I still think that him going to Real certainly won’t hurt Liverpool.

“I think Liverpool can find enough replacements to not worry about that sort of issue.

“There has got to be a time when you say ‘Look, this is the budget we are going to operate within’.

“I’m afraid there is player power, but there is also boardroom power and there will be a common-sense approach, and Liverpool have been very good at that.

“They have had a couple of bad buys, but not too many.

“I think you just don’t get held to ransom by players and have got to accept that there is a level.”
