Liverpool exploit special ‘relationship’ amid confirmed Mohamed Salah news – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed the “crucial relationship” between Liverpool and the Egypt FA has borne fruit with Mohamed Salah set to return to the club early.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Jurgen Klopp is reaping the “benefits” of transparent contact between club and national managers.

As confirmed by the Egyptian FA on Twitter (25 September), Salah will be “rested” for Tuesday’s friendly against Liberia.

The Daily Mail updated later that day to claim the forward has been released from the squad early and will resume domestic duties with Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s (1 October) game against Brighton.

Salah netted twice during Egypt’s 3-0 friendly win over Niger on Friday (23 September) – bringing his tally to 49 goals in 86 international games.

However, he has scored just twice in six Premier League outings with Liverpool sitting eighth in the top flight.

Whelan suggested the Reds have been handed a timely boost with Salah now getting more time to prepare before facing Brighton.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Egypt realise how important he is to Liverpool.

“He’s not started the season well, but it’s a nice change of scenery and he gets to go home – which is important.

“On the other hand, Egypt are looking out for Liverpool because he is their main man. They’re helping both the club and the player by giving him a bit more time before the Premier League returns.

“These kinds of relationships are crucial.

“Jurgen Klopp and his staff will be communicating constantly with national team managers – and these are the benefits.”
