Liverpool face ‘disaster’ as star trio could all leave – sources

Liverpool are facing a “disaster” as Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah could all leave for free next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the club will hold talks with all three players in the coming weeks to assess their plans for the future.

The superstar trio have entered the final year of their contracts at Anfield and will be free to discuss moves abroad come January.

Losing the three stars would be a huge blow to Arne Slot’s side and sources say they will be desperate to come to a resolution which suits the club and the players.

Liverpool could lose Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold for nothing

Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk all established themselves as key players during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager, but the club is now facing a period of transition.

The arrival of Slot was warmly received by fans, but whether he can live up to the high expectations set by his predecessor is yet to be seen.

Sources say the players will decide on where they see their long-term futures and whether Liverpool can match their ambitions under the new boss.

All three players find themselves in different situations and have big decisions to make during the final year of their deals.

Salah has attracted major interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia who wish to make him the face of the Pro League as Football Insider revealed in May a £100million bid could arrive this summer.

Should that offer not materialise, the opportunity to make the move for free next summer will remain a tempting proposition for the winger.

Meanwhile, Van Dijk had revealed in an interview that he will “think carefully” about his future at club level, refusing to make any commitments at this stage.

Alexander-Arnold has been earmarked as a future captain of Liverpool but is attracting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and could be tempted to move.

Liverpool are desperate to avoid the “disaster” of losing all three players for free and will hope for positive progress to be made in the coming weeks.
