Liverpool fans amazed by Szoboszlai transformation in new role under Arne Slot

Liverpool fans were wowed by Dominik Szoboszlai’s performance in the pre-season friendly v Arsenal as Arne Slot deployed him in a new role.

Slot’s side beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with goals from Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho making the difference.

The Hungary international played in a deeper role behind the midfield, where he was allowed to dictate play and show off his range of passing and ability in possession.

This represented a change from his usual advanced position previously seen under Jurgen Klopp since his arrival from RB Leipzig last summer.

Fans were impressed by his display, albeit in pre-season, as Slot’s ideas and changes begin to become clear with just over two weeks until the season kicks off.

Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Liverpool are looking to sign a new deep-lying midfielder before the transfer window closes, but Szboboszlai may provide a new option in that position.

Playing in the advanced role in his first season at Anfield, Szoboszlai made 45 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

Now, the boss’ changes could see fewer goal contributions, but will allow him to become more involved in the game and help to dictate play.

Supporters were stunned by the midfielder’s performance, labelling him “fantastic” and “excellent” as Slot’s experiment paid off.

In other news, Liverpool and Tottenham have made moves to sign a red-hot striker.
