Liverpool fans were in disbelief after Virgil van Dijk got into a heated confrontation with Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke on Sunday (31 March).
The Reds secured a 2-1 win against the Seagulls at Anfield after Mohamed Salah’s and Luis Diaz’s strikes cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s second-minute opener.
The three points kept Jurgen Klopp’s side well and truly in the tight title race, but eagle-eyed supporters were baffled by van Dijk’s “fury” at his countryman.
During the first half, van Dijk, 32, was seen aggressively pushing van Hecke in the lead-up to a Liverpool set piece.

The Reds’ star forcibly shoved the Brighton ace with both hands just outside the penalty box, nearly taking him off his feet, before going in for a second powerful nudge after van Hecke retaliated.
Van Dijk did not have his best game against Roberto De Zerbi’s side and tensions were high after they bagged the early goal.
Supporters have taken to social media to react to the intense confrontation, and some were adamant that van Dijk would have escalated the feud if van Hecke was not a fellow Dutchman.
