Liverpool fans have ‘responded’ after ‘massive’ Jordan Henderson reveal – pundit
Kevin Campbell has stressed the importance of Liverpool “connecting with the fanbase” during games at Anfield.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Everton and Arsenal striker suggested the crowd player a major part in the win over Man City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side beat City 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday (16 October).
Speaking to club media (19 October), captain Jordan Henderson heaped praise on the home supporters for giving the players “a massive lift” during the game.
He described the Anfield crowd as Liverpool’s “not-so-secret weapon”.
The Reds followed up their victory over Pep Guardiola’s side with a 1-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday (19 October).
When asked by Football Insider what it is like to play as an opposition plater at Anfield, Campbell said: “Look, Liverpool’s crowd is a knowledgeable crowd.
“They know what it takes to win big games and big trophies. They have been involved in so many great moments over the years.
“Sometimes you could argue that the crowd does not get going against the lesser teams.
“The fans know they have to play their part. The intensity from the fans was there throughout the Man City game. Every challenge, every duel, every opportunity they got behind the team.
“We are talking about Liverpool football club here. They are an established giant of world football.
“The fans responded to the challenge of Man City. They showed a defiance and that mentality.
“The key to it is, the team and the fanbase have to connect. They connected on Sunday.”
