Liverpool fans howling as Nick Woltemade update drops at Newcastle: ‘Music to my ears’

Liverpool pulled out of the race for Nick Woltemade before a club-record move to Newcastle United during the summer.

A new rivalry sparked between the two clubs not long after the Magpies pipped Arne Slot‘s side to the Carabao Cup trophy, taking revenge by stealing Alexander Isak from them in September.

With the Swedish international now sidelined with a broken leg, the transfer has not exactly worked out at Anfield, but even with 13 goal contributions, Woltemade has not exactly set the world alight.

There are rumours that the former VfB Stuttgart forward is unhappy at St James’ Park, though the original reports have been dismissed as exactly that – rumours.

Now, just a few days after Football Insider revealed that Newcastle are open to letting Woltemade leave, talkSPORT (18 February) have revealed the same, with the player apparently wanting a move away.

Liverpool fans can’t stop laughing at Newcastle United’s expense

While many laugh at the Newcastle news, one Anfield faithful wants Liverpool sign Woltemade “for the banter” after pulling out of the race for his signature during the summer.

As well as stealing Isak from the Magpies, they signed Hugo Ekitike, who looks to be one of the signings of the summer, and now the fans want a repeat when the next transfer window rolls around.

The rivalry runs so deep that one fan views the news like “music to my ears”. It remains to be seen what the truth is about Woltemade’s future, but it is certainly a worrying update, nonetheless.

What do the stats say about Nick Woltemade’s first Premier League season?

With 12 games of the Premier League campaign remaining, there is still plenty of time for the striker to improve his stats from seven goals and two assists so far.

He has only started 17 of his 23 matches to date, with Anthony Gordon and Yoane Wissa preferred through the middle at times, leading to questions about his future already.

However, in terms of shots on target, he ranks in the 65th percentile, as well as the 73rd percentile for chances created, the 76th percentile for successful dribbles and the 65th percentile for duels won [FotMob].

There have been much worse debut seasons in the Premier League, but when he’s competing against the ghost of Isak, it was always going to be a tough first 12 months at St James’ Park.
