‘Get rid’, Worst ever, ‘Clown’, – Liverpool fans slaughter senior player after Roma clash

By Richard Parks

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to slaughter Loris Karius for his performance in their team’s Champions League clash against Roma on Wednesday night.

Number one Karius, 24, played the full 90 minutes as the Merseysiders advanced to the final of Europe’s biggest competition by winning the semi-final 7-6 on aggregate after losing the second leg in the Stadio Olimpico 4-2.

Liverpool conceded three times in the second half in Rome to lose for the first time in the competition this season but Jurgen Klopp and his players celebrated wildly in front of 5,000 travelling fans after the final whistle.

Virgil van Dijk sank to his knees and James Milner lay flat on his back in front of the travelling fans, who were kept in the ground long after the final whistle.

There were a few nervy moments for Liverpool, with Roma scoring twice in the final 10 minutes for the second consecutive match, with Edin Dzeko capitalising on a mistake from Loris Karius for the second after 52 minutes.

Liverpool supporters were critical of the keeper as he cut a nervous performer in goal, with one claiming him as the worse ever shot-stopper to make a Champions League final.

Others urged the club to “get rid” of Karius and replace him with a more reliable performer who can be trusted to deliver in high pressure situations.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
