Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott had an afternoon to forget after giving away a penalty in his side’s FA Cup fourth-round defeat against Plymouth Argyle.
The Merseyside giants fielded a reasonably strong side against the Championship club despite making a number of changes and leaving several stars at home.
After the two sides went in 0-0 at half-time, Elliott gave away a penalty on 53 minutes when the ball hit his hand inside the box.
Ryan Hardie stepped up to score the resulting spot-kick after sending Caoimhin Kelleher the wrong way.
Liverpool struggled to muster many chances after going behind and were unable to find an equaliser to keep their FA Cup hopes alive.
Arne Slot’s side registered just one shot on target before the final 10 minutes despite starting the game with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa in the forward positions.
