By Harry Sykes

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their sympathy for Crystal Palace supporters after it emerged that Roy Hodgson is in line to become the club’s new manager.

Frank de Boer was sacked by the Premier League club on Monday morning after just five matches and 77 days in charge.

The Eagles are 19th in the Premier League after losing 1-0 at Burnley on Sunday and failed to score in their four league matches under De Boer.

The BBC Sport website claim that former Liverpool and England manager Hodgson will immediately take over at Selhurst Park as the new boss.

Liverpool fans took to social media en massive to slam the impending appointment of Hodgson, who had a wretched six-month spell in charge of the club that ended in January 2011.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Announcing the 47-year-old Dutchman’s departure on the club website, Palace said: “We would like to thank Frank for his dedication and hard work.”

Former Ajax boss De Boer only took over this summer, succeeding Sam Allardyce, who left after helping Palace avoid relegation last season.

Should Hodgson take the job on a permanent basis, he will be the club’s seventh permanent manager in six years.

In other Liverpool news, a BBC pundit has predicted one of two players will be axe to make way for new signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
