Liverpool fans react on Twitter as 19-year-old axed from squad v Watford

By Dominic Toner

Joe Gomez has been dropped from the squad against Watford – and the Liverpool fans were not happy with the decision on Twitter.

The 19-year-old was not named in the matchday Reds squad for Monday night’s Premier League clash away to Watford, despite being involved in the 18-man set-up for the previous game away to Crystal Palace.

He has made just three senior appearances this campaign following his comeback from a long-term injury, but has been unable to force his way back into the first team.

Jurgen Klopp has decided to name an unchanged starting line-up, but has been able to bring Adam Lallana back to the bench.

Liverpool fans voiced their anger that young defender Gomez was omitted from the squad against Watford.

Gomez has been unable to force his way into Liverpool’s starting line-up, despite serious question marks arising over the quality of their defence.

Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Lucas and Joel Matip have been the senior options at centre-back this campaign, but Klopp’s side have been unable to be defensively solid.

Gomez enjoyed a fantastic start when he moved to Anfield from Charlton, but his injury has seen him slip right down the pecking order.
