Liverpool fans react on Twitter as Coutinho makes comeback

By Alex Stevens

Liverpool fans have reacted with delight on Twitter after Philippe Coutinho was named in the matchday squad for the first time in nearly two months.

The Brazilian has recovered from an ankle injury and is on the substitute’s bench for Wednesday night’s League Cup semi-final first leg clash against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has recalled Coutinho, while also making eight changes to the side that drew 0-0 against Plymouth in the FA Cup last Sunday.

The German has changed the entire back four, with Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan and James Milner all returning to the side, while there are also recalls for Georginio Wijnaldum and attacking trio Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino.

But it is the return of Coutinho, who has been absent for nearly seven weeks with an ankle problem, that has got Liverpool fans excited.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Coutinho has been sidelined since breaking down in the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland on 26 November.

He had began the season in dazzling form as one third of the most electrifying front three in the top flight, alongside Firmino and Sadio Mane, who is absent for the Southampton match as he is on African Cup of Nations duty.

In other Liverpool team news, the club have made a striker approach and Klopp has personally called the player to smooth the deal.
