Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Balotelli scoring on debut

By Harvey Byrne

Liverpool fans have reacted comically on Twitter after Mario Balotelli scored seven minutes into his Nice debut.

The controversial former Reds forward joined the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer from Anfield on deadline day.

Balotelli, 26, spent two years at the Merseysiders following his £16million move from AC Milan, but he struggled to make an impact in his Premier League return.

Liverpool fans were quick to point out on social media that it was just a penalty, while others were happy that their former forward scored for his new club.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

During Balotelli’s two-year stay in Merseyside, he played in just 28 fixtures scoring four goals.

The attacker returned to Milan last season on loan, but he also struggled to recapture his form scoring three goals in 23 appearances.

Once considered a bright prospect, the Premier League title winner has moved to Ligue 1 in an attempt to revive his career, similar to what former Newcastle attacker Hatem Ben Arfa did at Nice before earning a move to PSG.

Liverpool saw the departures of several players this summer, including Balotelli, Christian Benteke, Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure.
